Client case study: GoDaddy to Microsoft 365 migration
H&D Building Supplies needed to move four business domains across three businesses from a GoDaddy-managed Microsoft 365 arrangement.
Gooroo designed three separate Microsoft 365 environments and planned the transition around business separation, domain changes and a shorter weekend migration window.
The result was a smooth transition with very little disruption and a clearer Microsoft 365 structure for each business.
“Gooroo made the move from GoDaddy smooth and straightforward, with very little disruption across our businesses.”
From
GoDaddy-managed Microsoft 365
To
Three separate Microsoft 365 environments
Project scale
Four business domains, Saturday trading
Outcome
Clearer Microsoft 365 environments with direct local support
The project covered three businesses operating from Heatherbrae and serving customers across Newcastle, Port Stephens and the wider Hunter region.
Although they were part of one migration project, they did not share the same Microsoft 365 requirements. Each business needed the right domains, users and administration to remain clearly separated.
H&D Building Supplies is a family-owned building supplies store serving domestic and commercial customers throughout the Hunter region.
The Peg Man manufactures and supplies hardwood pegs, stakes and surveying products for trade and industry customers.
Select Fasteners supplies fasteners, tools, hardware and related trade products from Heatherbrae in the Port Stephens region.
Renee wanted Microsoft 365 supported by an experienced IT company that understood the businesses and could provide direct assistance when needed. The existing GoDaddy-managed arrangement no longer suited how the businesses wanted Microsoft 365 structured, administered and supported.
The environment also covered four domains across three separate businesses. Before anything could move, Gooroo needed to establish which domains, users and mailboxes belonged in each destination environment. That decision would shape the tenant structure, licensing, administration and migration sequence that followed.
H&D Building Supplies used two domains, while The Peg Man and Select Fasteners each required their own Microsoft 365 environment. The migration sequence needed to respect those boundaries.
Select Fasteners traded on Saturday. Preparation and sequencing needed to account for the reduced quiet period rather than relying on an unrestricted weekend.
Moving email was only one part of the project. The more important task was deciding how the three businesses should be structured in Microsoft 365 after leaving the existing GoDaddy arrangement.
H&D Building Supplies used two business domains, while The Peg Man and Select Fasteners each needed their own Microsoft 365 environment. Rather than placing everything into one tenant, Gooroo designed three separate environments so each business could retain the required separation and be managed independently.
Select Fasteners also traded on Saturday, which reduced the usual quiet weekend migration window. That meant the destination environments, domain changes and migration sequence needed to be prepared carefully before the live transition began.
Gooroo treated the project as a Microsoft 365 design and migration engagement, rather than simply changing providers. Before moving any domains or accounts, we mapped the four domains across the three businesses and determined where users, mailboxes and administrative access needed to sit.
With the destination structure agreed, the remaining work could follow a clear plan. Licensing, backups, domain changes, account preparation and workstation configuration could all be aligned with the correct Microsoft 365 environment before the live transition began.
This approach also reduced the risk of one business being affected by changes intended for another. It gave the migration a defined structure before any production changes were made.
Once the destination environments were prepared, Gooroo moved the domains, accounts and workstation access according to the agreed structure. H&D Building Supplies retained its two business domains, while The Peg Man and Select Fasteners moved into their own Microsoft 365 environments.
The migration sequence also accounted for Select Fasteners trading on Saturday, which reduced the available quiet period. Gooroo coordinated the live changes around that constraint and then validated domain, email and user access after the transition.
The result was three separately structured Microsoft 365 environments that matched the way the businesses needed to operate. The transition caused very little disruption and avoided unnecessary dependence between the businesses.
After the transition, each business had a Microsoft 365 environment that reflected how it actually operated. H&D Building Supplies retained its two business domains, while The Peg Man and Select Fasteners remained in their own separately structured environments.
The businesses also moved away from the previous support arrangement and gained direct access to Gooroo for Microsoft 365 assistance. Renee described the migration as smooth and straightforward, with very little disruption across the businesses.
“We wanted a Microsoft 365 environment supported by an IT company we could easily contact. Gooroo made the move from GoDaddy smooth and straightforward, with very little disruption across our businesses. We now have a clearer Microsoft 365 setup and local support when we need it.”

Moving away from a GoDaddy-managed Microsoft 365 environment can involve much more than transferring mailbox data. Domains, user accounts, licensing, administrator access and workstation configuration may all affect how the migration should be planned.
The destination structure becomes especially important when several domains or separate businesses are involved. Deciding where each domain, user and mailbox belongs before migration helps create a Microsoft 365 environment that is clearer to administer afterwards.
A well-planned migration also needs to fit around the way the business operates. Trading hours, staff availability and acceptable downtime can all affect when changes happen and how much preparation is required beforehand.
